Where Grok Imagine wins
Two things stand out. First, speed: Grok generates clips in roughly 5 to 30 seconds, the fastest in this comparison by a wide margin, which makes it superb for rapid iteration. Second, image-to-video quality: version 1.5 climbed to #2 on the Arena image-to-video board, essentially tied with Seedance and ahead of both Veo and Kling. Its native audio even includes music and singing, and access is cheap because it is bundled into existing X and SuperGrok subscriptions.
If you live in image-to-video and value turnaround speed, Grok is excellent.
Where Seedance 2 wins
Grok's strength is narrow. On text-to-video it drops to around #12, while Seedance 2 ranks #1 in both modalities. So if any of your work starts from a text prompt rather than an image, the gap is large.
Seedance also outputs up to 1080p (Grok is capped at 720p), accepts a richer set of reference inputs (images, video and audio together), and bills per second with free audio rather than locking generation behind a monthly subscription. That makes Seedance the more flexible, higher-ceiling choice for varied production work.
The verdict
- Choose Grok Imagine for the fastest image-to-video iteration, native music, and cheap access through an existing X/SuperGrok plan.
- Choose Seedance 2 for the best all-round quality (it is #1 on both boards), higher resolution, text-to-video that actually competes, and richer references.
Grok is a brilliant specialist for fast image-to-video. Seedance 2 is the better default across the full range of video work.
